"Recently Steve Rhode from RareAviation.com came to speak to our group at the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum. Our members loved his restored films and strongly support his important mission of saving aviation history and making it available to everyone. For those of us who love aviation and aviation history, RareAviation.com is a unique site that everyone must visit."

Description

This 1487 page document gives you a close look at the people, places, conditions, crew and individual DC-3 aircraft that wound up in trouble. This accumulated study of 125 DC-3 accidents, from official accident investigations, takes you back to the scene of all of these accidents.

This is the only document that I have ever seen that accumulates all of the official investigations about DC-3 accidents into one document and provides you with an extreme level of detail about each accident.

The Strange Stories Inside

As an example, one of the interesting investigations included in this massive digital document is the factual tale of Mr. Oren A. Pruitt, a passenger that fell to his death through the main cabin door on Piedmont Airlines DC-3 N45V.

While cruising at an altitude of 6,500 feet, Mr. Pruitt had an unexpected surprise as he waited for the lavatory to become available. After finding the primary lavatory occupied, Mr. Pruitt, who was on his honeymoon and had been drinking, apparently attempted to use the alternative lavatory. Witness state they heard a sudden rush of wind after Mr. Pruitt opened the main cabin door and observed Mr. Pruitt attempting to hold on to the door frame as he fell out of the plane to his death.

You will read about the DC-3 that vanished in flight. An airplane owned and operated by Pacific Alaska Air Express, a DC-3, NC66637, disappeared between Yakutat, Alaska, and Seattle, Washington, never to be heard from again. The airplane has never been found. The plane vanished with 15 passengers and two crew members.

You will also be surprised by the number of airline DC-3's that collided with military aircraft while flying during the 1940's.
