The film is comprised of footage shot by 1,400 combat cameramen along with captured German footage. This full scale account of the Normandy invasion from its inception until the meeting at the Elbe is in reality a masterpiece of compilation, taken from the records of battlefield cameramen, and accompanied by an unusually interesting comments of the actual men of the invading armies. A prodigiously complex undertaking has been reduced to clarity and human perspective without losing the senses of the vast scope.
Almost every scene is extraordinary footage of the actual WWII battles from the allied landings at Normandy to meeting up with the Russians at the Elbe River in Germany, the final critical step before taking Berlin. Dramatic and formally restricted footage has been craftily edited to tell the story of the many historic battles leading to victory in Europe-Normandy, Mosel, Arnheim, Remagen Bridge, Rhine River, Battle of the Bulge and many more. History will be relived as you join the infantry struggles backed by air power, artillery, airborne forces, and all the supporting resources. For all who want too know more about the European Victory strategy, the daily challenges, and the high cost in lives, material and European cities of the struggles this is a must-see film.
Some of the memorable footage includes lots of pictures of the actual Omaha Beach landing, a disturbing scene of released prison camp inmates, battles for the cities, tumultuous greetings of the troops by the populace, and recognizable up close shots of many of the troops. Once you comprehend that you are watching the actual battles from frontline cameramen you realize why this is a must have film.
