This video contains the original color 8mm home movies filmed by a Marine at An Hoa in 1969. Converted with an HD camera.
A fantastic look into a seldom-seen aspect of Vietnam; a forward combat and logistics base in one of the most dangerous areas of all of Vietnam.
The Marine who filmed this was most likely assigned to logistics, based upon the footage. As he pans the camera towards various directions, you will often see indications that they are in the middle of a very active combat zone.
The film begins in Danang, where Marines appear to be receiving training on large guns. Then we are briefly in a convey, then in a CH-46 with good scenes of the ground, then we arrive at An Hoa.
Great scenes of CH-46 and CH-53 helicopters picking up the cargo (in nets) and flying away.
Great scenes of the base, including some large howitzers.
An A-4 Skyhawk swoops in and drops what may be napalm very close to the base.
C-130 and a OV-10 Bronco taking off. We also see a Pan American jet in the video.
Just a spectacular film of a forward combat base.
